Hey neighbour,

A heads-up if you’re planning on catching the ferry this weekend, the Maritime Union says it's switching off Opal readers fleet-wide from today, which might mean free travel, but Transport NSW disputes that and says normal fares still apply. Nobody seems totally sure, but expect delays and possible cancellations.

Elsewhere, it's shaping up to be another standout weekend with HobbyCon landing in Wentworth Park, Sydney Underground Film Festival turning 20 at the Factory Theatre and Bingo Botanica's Neon Jungle Brunch adding some colour to the weekend.

There's also a free bouncy castle at Petersham Bowling Club too, plus Re Place After Dark in Summer Hill for a preloved wardrobe refresh. All of that and more below.

Enjoy,
Seb

TRANSPORT DISRUPTIONS

Public transport disruptions are constantly changing. Below is a guide based on available information at the time of publishing and specifically for impacted transport in the Inner West. Stay up to date at Transport NSW.

THIS WEEKEND:

  • M1 Metro: Sun 13 Sep: Metro services will not run between Tallawong and Sydenham. Replacement buses operate between Tallawong and Chatswood only. Use trains between the City and Sydenham.

  • F3 Parramatta River (Balmain, Balmain East, Birchgrove): From Fri 11 Sep, the Maritime Union says it will switch off Opal readers fleet-wide until 6 Oct, meaning free travel. Transport NSW disputes this and says normal fares apply and passengers must keep tapping on and off. Whichever holds on the day, expect possible delays and cancellations as industrial action continues.

NEXT WEEK:

  • Sydney Ferries protected industrial action: The dispute over Opal readers and fares continues through the week, alongside the broader overtime and work bans (running until 30 Sep and 6 Oct respectively). Check before you travel.

If you’ve got this far, I appreciate you. Don’t forget to check directly with the venue before heading out, as events can and do change at the last minute.

Also, if you’re ever asked by an event organiser as to how you came to find out about their event, please tell them that you were sent by Under the Flight Path 💚

See you next week,
