Hey neighbour,

This weekend, Newtown's got a dinner for solo diners, Marrickville's packed a whole morning of self-care into one sitting, and Burwood's throwing a games night worth crossing suburbs for.

Leichhardt is keeping it gentle with a cushioned Peter and the Wolf for the little ones, and the Inner West Ale Trail goes dark. All that, plus markets, live music and more, right here in the Inner West.

Enjoy,
Seb

THE ALE TRAIL GOES DARK THIS WEEKEND

Fifteen breweries along the Inner West Ale Trail are switching off the lights this weekend for Dark Side of the Beer Festival. Picture hot poker beers warmed table-side, fireside choirs setting the mood, and DJs keeping things moving as the sun goes down.

Each venue will be putting its own spin on the theme, so the night looks different depending on where you land.

The festival runs from 4pm every day this weekend and with free entry, it’s an easy one to get behind. With this type of event, I'd always recommend picking two or three venues rather than trying to hit them all, and letting the vibes decide where the day takes you.

NAIDOC’S GIANT COMMUNITY PUZZLE

St David's Uniting Church in Haberfield is hosting a NAIDOC Week celebration this Saturday, built around a giant community puzzle that grows piece by piece throughout the afternoon.

Everyone who turns up gets a blank puzzle piece to decorate with something they love about the area or a hope for what's ahead. By the end of the day, those pieces lock together into one shared artwork to celebrate 50 Years of Deadly.

Puzzle decorating kicks off at 3pm, a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony follows at 3:30pm, and the community puzzle comes together from 4pm.

Dinner and a bonfire will take shape from 5pm, with things winding down by 7pm. All ages and backgrounds welcome, and entry is free, so feel free to drop by for the whole run, or just the bits that suit you.

EATS & DRINKS

BAR SPOTLIGHT
Deadwax: This Enmore Road vinyl bar was brought to life last year by the Otis team: Conor O'Brien and Dan Teh, alongside chef Davyd Blacksmith. DJs spin on weekends and there's a request night midweek if you want to pick the soundtrack yourself. The kitchen has some great hits including wagyu pastrami sandos and a taramasalata crumpet with salmon roe, all served until last drinks.

Cafe Lewi. Source: Broadsheet

ONE TO TRY
Cafe Lewi: This Lewisham cafe from chef couple Isabella Leva Laureti and John Laureti made Broadsheet's Hot List this year. The space started as a daytime-only setup but now runs Wednesday steak frites nights and Friday aperitivo too. My personal pick is the NZ monkfish burger, a strong contender for one of the best in Sydney.
