Hey neighbour,

The ANZAC weekend is behind us, and this one's shaping up to be even better. As always, there’s plenty going on across the Inner West, and I’ve pulled together as much as I can humanly fit into one email to help you plan your weekend. Enjoy.

THIS WEEKEND AT A GLANCE:

  • Firedoor meets Austin BBQ at Sydney Brewery, Rozelle and Saturday is free entry.

  • The Devil Wears Prada 2 gets a drag-studded red carpet premiere at Dendy Newtown.

  • Josh Thomas plays the Enmore on Saturday and Sunday.

  • The Sydney Design Market takes over Carriageworks for the entire weekend.

  • 27 events across the weekend, covering theatre, comedy, nightlife, workshops, and more.

  • 27 live music acts.

  • 5 activities to keep the kids occupied.

  • 14 markets running.

  • 3 cafes and restaurants worth your attention.

  • IWC wants your thoughts on its Climate Strategy before 27 May.

FEATURED STORY

IWC IS UPDATING ITS CLIMATE STRATEGY

Inner West Council is revising its Climate Strategy. This framework shapes how the council reduces emissions and responds to climate change across the Inner West, and they're asking residents to have a say before it's finalised.

The current strategy dates back to 2019, which feels like a different era given where the conversation on climate action has moved since then.

The updated version will outline what the current challenges look like and commit to specific council actions. Feedback closes Wednesday 27 May, and you can complete the survey online, email Jon Stiebel at Inner West Council, or call 02 9392 5690 if you'd prefer to respond by phone or post.

BUSINESS OF THE WEEK

THE BABA'S PLACE CREW OPENS A COMMUNITY CAFE

The team behind Baba's Place has opened Sit in the heart of Marrickville. Built inside the ground floor of a 54-apartment social housing block, it's a genuine community project developed in collaboration with Fresh Hope Communities and Nightingale Housing, shaped by hospitality lifers and local creatives working together from the ground up.

Jean-Paul El Tom leads the kitchen with a focus on fermentation and minimal intervention with most of the dairy cultured in-house. The menu doesn't anchor to any single cuisine: pot-set yoghurts, fried egg fatteh, rolled omelettes crowned with anchovy, yoghurt-and-whey pancakes. After 11am it switches up, with a Belly's burger and steamed rainbow trout joining the mix. Reuben Hills on the machine, AP Bakery bread on the counter. Worth making time for this weekend.

KIDS PICKS
