Hey neighbour,

It's the Anzac Day long weekend, which means two-up is legal for exactly one day of the year. Vic on the Park, Bob Hawke’s and the Royal all have coins in the air from Saturday afternoon, and when you add a public holiday into the mix, expect a crowd. If a live music night is more your speed, One Step Beyond brings 45 years of British Ska to Camelot Lounge on Friday night.

A practical note: bottle shops are closed until 1pm on Saturday (Anzac Day), so stock up today if you need supplies. As always, best endeavours have been made to keep everything accurate, but events can shift at the last minute. Double-check with venues before you head out.

FEATURED STORY

THE INNER WEST LEADS ON EV CHARGING

If you've been on the fence about going electric, living in the Inner West just made that decision a lot easier. Inner West Council (with the help of NSW Government grants) has quietly built out more public EV charging infrastructure than any other community in Australia, with 146 ports already live and another 40 due before the end of June. That's close to 190 public chargers across kerbsides and council car parks, operating 24/7, with outputs ranging from 7kW to 22kW depending on location.

EV sales are at record highs nationally, and the pitch for switching has never been stronger on paper, making it easier for those living in apartments and shared living to charge away from home. At a time when petrol prices keep finding new ways to go up, this is a genuine infrastructure win for the community.

BUSINESS OF THE WEEK

PICK UP A FORK & PAY IT FORWARD

There's a Victorian terrace on Crown Street that, depending on the time of day, is either feeding people who have nowhere else to go or feeding people who want to do something good on a Wednesday night. Technically, it's in the City of Sydney LGA, but it’s close enough that we can claim it.

Refettorio OzHarvest is a collaboration between OzHarvest founder Ronni Kahn and Italian chef Massimo Bottura, and the concept is simple. By day, free three-course vegetarian lunches go out to anyone experiencing hardship. Wednesday and Thursday evenings, the doors open to the public for Pay It Forward dinners. It’s the same kitchen, same chefs, same food, except you pay, and every ticket covers four daytime meals for the people who need them most.
