FEATURED STORY
NATIONAL DONUT DAY HAS LANDED

National Donut Day falls this Friday, 5 June, and there are four spots nearby giving away free donuts. Every offer is limited to one per customer while stocks last, and earlier in the day is the safer play.
DONUT GIVEAWAYS:
Donut King: The Marrickville Metro store is handing out one free cinnamon donut per customer, no purchase required.
Address: Marrickville Metro, 20 Smidmore St, Marrickville
Brooklyn Donuts: The Broadway store is giving away a free Original Glazed on Friday this week. Download the Brooklyn Donuts app to claim it before heading in.

WORTH PAYING FOR:
If you can’t make it out to claim your free donuts at any of the above spots, here are some honourable mentions from across the Inner West:
Donut Papi: Filipino-inspired and fried on-site, the donuts here run on ube, pandan and matcha glazes. The queue on weekends tells you the rest.
Address: 139 Marrickville Rd, Marrickville
Two Chaps: The from-scratch bakery on Chapel Street runs a rotating donut selection that sells out well before closing. Check their Instagram before heading over.
Address: 122 Chapel St, Marrickville

BUSINESS OF THE WEEK
HEARTHE IS OPEN FOR DINNER

Hearthe
Hearthe, a quaint neighbourhood corner cafe opposite Stanmore station, is the brainchild of Christopher Thé, the former owner of Black Star Pastry. Its menu is built on native Australian ingredients, honest seasonal cooking, and a neighbourhood intimacy Black Star never really had room for. Since day one, it’s been a breakfast and lunch affair, but that’s about to change.
Starting Friday 19 June, for exactly one month, Thé will be opening Hearthe up for dinner service as he returns to his fine dining roots. His kitchen résumé spans Bel Mondo, Claudes and Quay, so you know you’re in for a treat.
Tables are set to book out quickly, so be sure to reserve your spot to avoid disappointment.

ESTABLISHED: ONE TO TRY
Superfreak: Founded by Soulmate's Michael Ico and Dan Harrison, Superfreak is nestled next to Scout Studios on Enmore Road and has a winter menu that will definitely hit the spot. I made time to visit last week and indulged in the Autumn toast, which combines fennel and onion jam, prosciutto, whipped ricotta, roasted pecans, pear and parmigiano reggiano. To say it was delicious is a massive understatement. Their marketplace platter is worth trying too.
